Certification Foundation Programme

MentorLab has initiated the accreditation process of the Mentor Foundation Programme with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) to obtain a Global Quality Award for Mentoring Programmes (EQA) at Foundation level.

Methodology

The programme is composed of 30 hours of training, articulated into 4 different learning areas according to the EMCC Assessment framework: Theory models, Skill practice, Reflection review and Plan process.

Participants will learn:

  • Key principles, features and benefits of mentoring

  • The responsibilities and limitations of a mentor

  • How to create an effective structure to support the journey

  • The fundamental skills and tools needed to stimulate communication, create interactions, facilitate reflection and manage diversity

Features

ENTIRELY ONLINE

The programme is conceived and designed to make the most of the possibilities offered by technology. Entirely delivered online, it includes: access to a comprehensive collection of materials, tools and resources for consultation and download; TheLab, a social e-learning platform designed to foster collaboration and participation with other participants; a community of study and practice to engage and support each other; a mix of theoretical and practical lessons delivered live on Zoom.

THEORETICAL LECTURES

The programme includes 4 hours of individual study on a dedicated workbook, containing a detailed introduction to the methodology of mentoring, its models and tecniques, and a 2-hour theoretical seminar in which the learning material is presented by qualified experts and discussed with participants. This process is essential to integrate and transform theoretical learning into personal and professional growth.

IN-CLASS SKILL PRACTICE

Participants have the opportunity to attend a 2-hour lab during which, with the help of an experienced professional mentor, they can practice what learned, hone their talents and develop the mentor's mindset and presence.

MENTORING SESSIONS

It is said that practice makes perfect. This is why the programme requires each participant to deliver at least 9 hours of mentoring to a mentee external to the programme. MentorLab can propose to each participant a mentee to support thanks to its partnership with the Italian Mentoring Association and other organizations.

CASE STUDY AND GROUP SUPERVISION

It is very important for mentors to be supported during their learning experience. Participants have the opportunity to bring their practical challenges and dilemmas into a 2-hour group supervision session with a certified mentoring supervisor. A 2-hour closing session for case-study sharing completes the learning programme.

REFLECTION REVIEW AND SELF-ASSESSMENT

One learns from experience and, above all, from reflecting on the experience. Participants performs 6 hours of individual self-reflection and assessment of their learning and development as mentors through tailor-made questionnaires and exercises.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN DESIGN

New mentors are required to invest at least 3 hours of their time to design a detailed personal development plan for the next three years. Attending additional training courses, participating in mentoring programmes, applying the new set of skills in their day-to-day job are some examples of the steps of the participants’ path as effective mentors.

ACCESS TO EMCC CREDENTIALS

MentorLab has initiated the accreditation process of the Mentor Foundation Programme with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) to obtain a Global Quality Award for Mentoring Programmes (EQA) at Foundation level.

The programme consists of a series of theoretical lessons in which the material is presented and analysed by the professional trainers. On top of that, much space is given to collective discussion and exploration of the material. This process is essential to integrate and transform theoretical learning into personal and professional growth.

OBSERVED PRACTICE AND SUPERVISION

One learns from experience and, above all, from reflecting on the experience. From the start, participants have the opportunity to practise under the supervision of an experienced mentor, hone their skills, integrate what they have learnt effectively and develop the mentor’s mindset and presence.

80 HOURS OF TRAINING

Including 26 hours of individual study and reflection, 11 hours of in-depth online group study, 12 hours of supervision, 4 hours of observed practice, 18 hours of individual practice with external mentees, 4 hours for the development of the personal development plan, 1 hour of individual skill assessment, 4 hours for the final assessment.

PERSONALISED RHYTHM

The theoretical and practical topics of the programme are covered cyclically. At least one theory and one practice lesson are offered each week. The same lesson is repeated at least twice within four months. This allows each participant to find their own rhythm with maximum flexibility. Participants have up to 12 months of access to the programme and can decide the pace at which they attend lessons: from a fast track approach (4 months) to a take-it-easy one (12 months).

PRACTICE WITH EXTERNAL MENTEES

It is said that practice makes perfect. This is why the programme requires each participant to deliver at least 18 hours of mentoring to a mentee external to the programme. MentorLab can propose to each participant a mentee to support thanks to its partnership with the Italian Mentoring Association and other organizations.

ACCESS TO CREDENTIALS

Participants are assisted in the preparation of the Mentoring Personal Portfolio that MentorLab submits directly to EMCC for European Individual Accreditation (EIA).
